Wounds are injuries or damage to our body, caused by some external factors or trauma. Most of the wounds are caused by mechanical forces like people working with sharp objects, knives, shaving and accidents. Wounds are also associated with physiological conditions but they are less common.
Complications are associated with wounds and they are commonly these three:
1) Clostridium tetani is a spore forming gram positive bacteria and its spores can be found almost everywhere, especially Animal poop and soil. once spores enter our bloodstream through wound, it releases exotoxin (tetanus toxin) which reach intra-axonally to our central nervous system (spinal cord) where it binds to ganglioside receptors and block the release of inhibitory mediators (glycine and GABA) at spinal synapses leads to strong muscles spasm (spastic paralysis) with specific clinical features include lockjaw, exaggerated reflexes, arching of the back, and respiratory failure. A vaccine booster shot can be given after injury.
2) Staphylococcus aureus is another gram positive bacteria can infect wounds by direct contact, adhesion, which leads to redness around the wound and formation of pus which causes invasions of bacteria ton surrounding tissues and release of exotoxin and of various enzymes like coagulase, hemolysins and proteases causes sepsis which can be lethal.
3) Bleeding can be dangerous sometimes, especially in arterial damage which can be recognized by pulsating. signs and symptoms are headache, pale skin, low blood pressure and hypovolemic shock in severe cases.
