Ventricular Fibrillation – Chest Pain and Death – USMLE

Information about Ventricular Fibrillation:

In this video I quickly covered the topic of ventricular fibrillation. It is really the most dangerous cardiac arrhythmias. For me it was always hard to comprehend what it is and how to recognize it. So I attempted to illustrate it and note down some of the important symptoms such as chestp pain and dizziness as well as how it can end in death of the patient. Further more I tried to explain how ventricular flutter can turn into ventricular fibrillation.

Ventricular Fibrillation – Chest Pain and Death – USMLE

Ventricular Fibrillation is a malfunction of the heart’s normal pumping sequence due to a completely irregular and uncoordinated activation of myocardial muscles.
During Ventricular Fibrillation, the lower chambers of the heart start contractions at a very rapid rate and in an uncoordinated manner.
The waves of heartbeats are completely independent and irregular with a small amplitude.
Explaining the synchronization will help us understand this disease more clearly.
So if there is no synchronization of the heart’s contraction, there will be no effective ejection to pump the blood effectively to the aorta, associated with a frequency of more than 320 per minute.
Collapse and loss of consciousness are the most common symptoms of Ventricular Fibrillation. But before these complications, Ventricular Fibrillation is associated with chest pain, dizziness, nausea. a very fast heartbeat and shortness of breath.
They can lead to death if not treated on time.
When it comes to differential diagnosis, it is important to differentiate it from other similar cardiovascular diseases, namely Ventricular Flutter and non shockable rhythms.
Therapy options include:
1) CPR because chest compressions are an essential, a lifesaving step.
2) Automated external defibrillator (AED).
