Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Trailer
All you need to know about GERD

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, also known as GERD, is a condition in which stomach acid builds up and travels up the esophagus. The esophagus is the pathway that connects the mouth to the stomach, and stomach acid causes irritation and pain in the esophagus, which is the main symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Many people experience this condition from time to time, especially after eating.

The main cause of GERD is the gastric acid reflex in the esophagus and heartburn is the main symptom. Normally, stomach acid builds up in an unhealthy stomach after eating spicy foods and drinking caffeine and alcohol. Obesity and overeating are also a major factor in this disease.

A person with GERD usually experiences heartburn, acid indigestion, difficulty swallowing, and abdominal pain. Usually, GERD is not a serious disease and is treatable, but long-standing GERD can damage the esophagus, which can lead to other serious problems and can be difficult to treat. The warning sign of GERD is regular heartburn after eating and sometimes irritation on an empty stomach.

Without treatment, gastroesophageal reflux disease does not go away on its own. An experienced doctor can effectively treat this condition and prescribe medication for a speedy recovery.
